Set Adrift On Memory Bliss

Been sitting on this list for a while… Major genre shift. Every song on this list has a special place in my heart, mostly due to my original crew…

This one’s for you guys — in remembrance of:

The haul-ass Hoompty rides to Taco Bell and back (but were always late for class anyway…), prom(s) and the questionable after-parties, missing contacts, mad gossip, bad boyfriends + their solutions, the no-doz + diet coke high-school survival cocktail, hot tubz and slippery decks, military-issue briefs in the trees, jello shots + dixie cups, dogs who eat hair gel, LM’s unexplainable love for mad-dog 20-20, boone’s strawberry hill, malibu rum, and the resulting puke & rally, boogie nights house and all of its “hidden rooms”, the infamous start(s) of EH and MH, Robbie and his “friendly” habits, house boats gone wild, monster-truck ditch driving and the top of the world, hicks dam and the albinos, the Pat and LM poison oak situation, fire-marshall EH, MP’s acura & nine-inch-nails PHM on blast windows down heater on zero degrees speeding downtown LG, The fucking 10 o’clock curfew, beer goggles and bad choices, chico state road trips + overalls + hair bears + hand-stands, depeche mode, coyote ugly, ace ventura, horrible biology teachers, Too Short, pool halls, pool parties, the dating pool at round table pizza, ex cons and trips to disneyland, small back seats, sliding down the side of freeways to pee in ditches, hot august nights, EH’s god forsaken goofy shirt and matching socks, LM’s creek-birkenstock rescue, JW’s potty mouth and amazingly contagious laugh, taco bell on the porch, parks at nighttime and cop evasion, pagers, coors light, screwdrivers the wrong way, redefining life as we knew it, turn by turn, song by song…This list doesn’t even begin to cover it all, but it’s what I still remember and smile about.

Much love. My life is better with you in it. And it’s even more amazing that you still are. Here’s to the last 20 years… There will be many many more to come.

Set Adrift on Memory Bliss. Because I fell in love with hip hop with you.

Homeostasis

As humans, we are at the mercy of ourselves.

Every single day of our existence, we are in a constant state of adaptation – emotionally, physically, and mentally … unconsciously seeking a state of homeostasis: Balance.

The more we grasp after things, the more greedy we become for those things. The more we satisfy our ill will, the more angry we become and we fuel the very fires we are trying to extinguish. We unintentionally repel that which we desire and fail to attain the urges that live deep within simply because we are too attached to outcomes; to ourselves.

Wherever we are in life, there is always the potential for change; for transformation. This is not something that should be taken for granted because it is an incredible gift. We are not ideal, but would like to be. Be cognizant of the fact that, in the journey for the ideal, every cause and condition is impermanent. Find solace in the acceptance that the only constant in life is an unending series of inconsistency. We can create routines, niches, ruts, places where we feel comfortable, temporary fixes, addictions, band-aids, shields … but we are not immune to circumstances beyond our control. Change and its energy is the way of the universe. It is how all things are created and destroyed.

We clumsily tread a series of cycles, actions and reactions, yins and yangs. A life of balance is one that will return the most reward. Getting overly caught up in the process will do damage. There is no beaten path, no manual … just existence and its side effects. Within each mind lies its own cosmos and the beautiful machine of our bodies attached – both exceptionally capable of functioning within the realms of their intricately formed ecosystems; their only caveat is that “we” are driving them. As beings with free will, there are never any guarantees.

This playlist is light and dark…sweet and sour. 1.2 hours of beautiful distraction. One complete revolution of my human experience, on a Thursday afternoon. A catalyst for a metaphysical moment of clarity that only a select few will ever know about.

Packing Heat

I needed to get this playlist off my chest. It’s fully loaded.

It’s for those of you who need the fortitude to self-eject from your ruts. I dare you. Be brave. Stop hiding behind that shield you’ve spent so long building and let the sun hit your face. Regroup, refocus, lean on your crew and chase after the aspirations and experiences and people that will help make your life one worth talking about. Ditch negative things and people and rise above. I say this not only for you, but for myself…

The Sweet Unknown

Music. The final frontier. These are the voyages of my aural senses… Their on-going mission: To explore strange new sounds, to seek out new music and new artists, to boldly listen to what no man has ever listened to before… (Yep, I’m a geek.)

As humans, most of us fear the unknown. We need to fill in any gaps in what we cannot understand with perception, presumption, and previous experience, regardless of accuracy, just so we can sleep at night.

This human, in reference to music, craves the unknown. It is one of my biggest pleasures to find a song that one of my friends has never heard before and grace their ears with its presence; to experience the unexpected and rare instance when I find a new song that I feel the need to repeat about 50 times in a row because it’s THAT good. Like comets and solar eclipses, they don’t happen very often but when they do I always think to myself, “That was totally worth the wait.” It is those songs that form our life’s soundtrack. The ones that come on and you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing the first time you heard it. They bookmark your life.

I hope that my followers hear some songs on here that make them feel that way. And if not, I’ll just keep trying…

My Crew

I’m not sure if I can accurately capture into words how much my friendships mean to me. I have many people in my life that I know and adore, and I try very hard to let them know that they mean a great deal to me whenever I can. The people in the pic below have touched my life in some way, and I just want to say, with Thanksgiving right around the corner, that this is something for which I am extremely thankful. To whatever capacity you were, currently are, or will be in my life, you have gotten to me somehow, and that will not be forgotten. Thank you for being someone worth knowing; and thank you for feeling the same way about me.

My original crew (you know who you are) … You are the family I’ve chosen. I’d take a bullet for you. I will love you forever. We might not talk every day, our lives may have taken different directions, but you will always be a part of me. Through thick and thin, the good, the bad and the ugly. Thank you for being the bridges that have gotten me over all of the valleys in my life. Thank you for your hearts and souls. I will always take care of them.

My loves. This playlist is for you.

Blonde Ambition

I’m on fire with my posts. So much great music to share…

This list is about heat, passion, physical contact, and sex. Humans require these things… And if one says they don’t they are lying to themselves… If you care about someone and you don’t have an undying craving to feel them close to you… Then they’re just your friend.

Enjoy, feel, and live each one of your sweet, hot, yummy moments to their fullest potential. Maybe a few of these songs will help you do so. Enjoy your weekend. Grab someone you dig and tell ’em they mean something to you. Hold their hand, pull them close, look into their eyes and hang on to the moments that will last forever.

O In Six

This one’s for O.

For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narow chinks of his cavern.

Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

Because life is short, and you’ve only got one
Because hearts are fragile and finite
Because minds are mechanically inclined and thus subject to failure
Because dreams without action are pain in progress
Because you’ll never really understand me
Because my rivals are becoming my mentors
Because music prevails where words fail

//Lisa//

This list is a progression, and a disjointed, fleeting journey, like life.
Ultimately, we’re just searching for our ultraviolet light. Once found, nothing else matters.
